The 2017 Beast TURKEY contest team poll

Unread postby Outdoor814 » Thu Mar 09, 2017 11:32 pm

So we're try to get this contest set up. Anyone that's interested please try to take a vote if you want teams or not. Once we figure out if everyone wants teams will figure out how were going to do the teams and how many teammates.

Voted yes. Team trash talk is quite enjoyable.

I voted no... Hunting to me is solitary.

I voted no as well.

Also don't think I like the idea of turning it into a scoring competition. Like the buck contest the story is so much more important than the score. A good story gets my vote every time.

Turkeys are easier to score and there are good turkeys just about everywhere they are populated unlike deer where certain areas have better genes and age structure. Just measure beard length plus spur length. Simple and I like the idea of score.

I voted no. I don't get to hunt as much as most on here (probably 3 days), so I don't want to drag a team down.

Agree with all above

I know in the other thread points were in mentioned in reference to keeping it simple

I think solo members hunting and entering their birds and stories is the simplest way. No worry trying to form a team etc and the score thing has never been the important aspect of hunting anyway.

To those that score is important, you can take the details from the story (beard length, spur length and body weight) calculate a vote depending on score if you choose to do so

I like a good hunt, good story and hunters out wnjoying themselves! Thats what gets my vote

I voted no as well, I was in a "big buck pool" few years ago with 5 man teams, some teams started killing immature bucks that they normally probably would not have killed toward the end of the contest just to get their score up, turned into a numbers game.

I'm not into scoring that much either. I just think it would be fun for a turkey contest. I've shot several that would of made our state book and never entered them. You don't know the spur length when you pull the trigger like you know antler size. I've shot turkeys with 10 inch beards and less than a inch spurs. So luck would play a role and I'm not a great story teller.

It's looking like it's going to be an every man for themselves contest.
