Painted my Decoy

Unread postby bowhunter15 » Thu Apr 21, 2016 3:49 pm

A lot of people I know use jake decoys, sometimes with hens, sometimes alone. I don't have a nice one like an Avian X or DSD. I was thinking about getting one, but then I remembered I had an old one in the attick that I won when I was 14. It's pretty bland, so I took a trip to Walmart to get some cheap acrylic paints and spruced it up a bit. Now only if I can get it to fully expand lol. Maybe I'll have to inflate a balloon inside.

Looks a lot better. How long did it take you? I wonder how it will hold up? Is it rubber or foam?

Looks good, darken it up along the back between the primary feathers. Google a DVD "flocked" decoy and you'll see what I mean

Put the decoy in a hot shower or use a blow dryer on it. This will take out the indentations. Just be sure no one is around while you bath and blow dry a jake decoy in the buff.

Thanks for the tip, I'll give the hair dryer a shot.

Rubber decoy. Probably spent a couple hours on it. The first coat needs an hour to dry. Then reassess the color.

I have that same decoy.... just like you it's sat in storage but maybe I'll get it out and do this. What colors did you use?
