Sorry I am late adding stories to the forum.
I will name this one Call Experienced!
Our season opens a little early for very aggressive calling in my opinion.
I prescouted several areas for 2 weeks prior to season opener. I thought I had a pretty good idea of where I wanted to begin. I decided on a ridge where I could begin a run and gun. Before daylight I heard some gobbles, but they were down the ridge from me a couple hundred yards. I remained silent thinking I would close the distance a little just after daylight and work them in.
As Saturday morning's sun rose, the calling started.......BUT it was by neighbors calling as aggressive, loud and non stop as I have ever heard. This was about 1300 yards away though, so I felt no danger of the gobbles I was on, being effected by those guys. I waited it out, and still have not made a sound. Scanning the field edges between the neighbors calling contest and where I heard the gobbles predawn with the binos I caught movement on a fence row. There was a small flock leaving the treeline where the hunters were in.
I waited the birds out and a few hours later they had made it to the ridge where I was hunting. The small flock must have come together with the birds on the ridge I was hunting. Soft content calling brought the entire flock within range, all I had to do was pick one out :) I had the 4 gobblers in the group fired up. I was hunting alone and for sure wishing I had someone with me to take advantage of the "extra" gobblers.
Here was Saturday mornings bird.
Just shy of 22 lbs, 10", and 1" spurs

I think it was just the sun on him. He was a little light color in comparison to typical Easterns around here, but he wasnt color phased.
