4 tags for me. Can't wait. With the warmer weather, the bedroom windows have been wide open at night. I wake up to gobbles every morning.

I was out scouting this morning and i came around a corner and whoosh, at first i thought it was a pheasant but quickly saw it was a big gobbler kicked up almost out from under me. I almost crapped my pants. I couldve got him on the fly I think. He was hiding under this stump:

Come to think of it, this has happened to me numerous times. Heres a few questions for you all, at what point do you think a turkey decides to hunker down, dissapper and wait it out instead of just running or flying away? Have you ever shot a tom out of the air? Do you think this habit could be used against a tom as a hunting tactic?

 cool ..

ive had this happen on a few occasions .....one year there was snow on the ground ....I seen two toms on the other side of the valley..i snuck around to get ahead of them .....I know I was traveling a lot faster then them.....I came around to the field and they weren't there :? ...there was old downed trees right on the field edge...I slowly walked up to one and peeked over ...here the hole time one of the toms hunkered down right at the base of the fallen tree witch I could not see from behind..i stared around the tree and woooosh that tom took off so fast I didn't even know what was going on

Yesterday was our opener. I was able to take a mature gobbler in the morning, and a few hours later, my daughter tagged a better gobbler! He was a very nice bird. Been a few years since my daughter and I have had the chance to get out in the turkey woods together, and it surely was a blessing for us!

I was able to get another gobbler this morning.

I will post up some pictures and stories later.

Congrats backstraps. The best days in the woods are those with family and loved ones.

Hahaha don't need the air horn yet. Having no problem locating them right now. They're very vocal going on, and coming off the roost.
