Unread postby Richard_Hunter » Fri May 23, 2014 12:33 pm

So the first time i went out this year i took a new hunter with me, I ended up calling in 5 toms at the same time he missed them 3 times and they took off like they were on fire, Since then they will answer my calls but wont come in, Do you guys think i wrecked this spot or do you think if i switched calls or something they would come back in need some help would like to get my buddy his first turkey plus i still need to get myself one.

That particular spot may be burned for a couple weeks. I think you can still get on the toms though. May have to move it up a little.

Are you working them from roost, or calling them to a blind.

PS: Tell you buddy to wait until they are closer and aim for the head....lol body shots wont do a lot to them ole gobblers ;)

I am trying to call them to a blind on a small chunk of land, have been hunting after noon most of the time seeing as i work first, and my buddy must think hes hawk eye or something cause they were like 60 yards off and he just opened up with out me saying to

It could still work. I would maybe move the blind to a spot where they travel everyday and wait them out. Maybe don't even call.

Or my favorite , for late season tactic for birds like that is stalking them using the foliage to my advantage.

Good luck.

Don't call if they are call shy, just wait at a spot they move thru daily.

I would ditch the blind and sit against the base of a large tree somewhere on their normal travel route. Also, call softly and sparingly.

It has always been my experience later in the season is not as good as early season. Once the turkey rut is over it gets tougher.

Yea, I was always told if you know where they roost and know where they want to go, get in between and wait for them. Most of the time you won't need to call, they'll come right to you. Spend some time learning their patterns, just like a deer.
