What Box Call?

Unread postby 62kodiak » Wed Mar 19, 2014 3:42 pm

I am looking to get a box call before season and I was hoping for some input from you guys. I don't really want to spend more than $40. I have a Primos WetBox that I got for free and it is neat, but to be honest it sounds horrible compared to traditional chalked boxes.

I prefer custom calls, quality is not cheap and I've found you get what you pay for. You can get some custom ones for around 40 and up. I dont like mass produced calls, they are not tuned and not consistant.

Do you have anything in mind Brad? I might be willing to spend more for a good call. I am not a real big fan of production calls either, but I don't have a lot of money to spend. I would really like to get a competition quality box call but they are usually $150+.

SS custom makes a great box. Probably to late to get one this year though.

Well, I ended up buying a Cherry Bomb at Fleet Farm. It is a real nice call for $25. I also picked up a hand made call from a fella named John DeArmond. I wasn't expecting much because he makes the calls as a hobby and sells them for $15. I did a little hunting around on the web and the people that bought his calls seemed to really like them. Now that I have played around with the call, I would say it is safe to assume that those people are deaf. The call sounds just awful. It is a nice looking box, so I figure that I will see if I cannot tune it and get some beautiful music out of her.

Thanks again for your suggestions guys. Hopefully I will be using one of those custom boxes that lostinstateforest and yungbuck suggested next year. I checked out both of the sites you guys suggested and they sure have some nice calls. Just a little out of my price range this year.

I have a small collection of custom made box calls. I like them because I don't sound like everyone who shops at the box stores or buys the main brands
