Well, the trip wasn't supposed to go down this way, but the cold front forced my hand. Had a trailer to winterize. Asked a couple neighbors if they wanted to tag along, and just before I leave at 3 am Saturday, Craig said Kyle could go.
Well I love hanging with the youths, so 13 yr old Kyle and I will take the trip. Kyle is my fishing buddy and we spilled some blood together last year on his first deer, so off we go.
Forecast was rain, but by time we hit Grayling, complete white out snow conditions. About 5:30am I have to go from 70mph to about 30. A big truck and another me first driver are coming up on me hard. Once they pass and spray me with slush to the point I cant see my hood I slow hard, think a fish tail happened. Well once these two in a hurry ##@@ blankety blanks pass me,, they hit their breaks hard and figured out why I was going so slow - I couldn't see!
Couple of cars in the ditch and an emergency vehicle flashing lights got some people to slow down. I had enough and had to pull over. Longest trip to the bridge I have ever had (trip to the bridge means the Mighty Mackinaw).
We hit the Garden Peninsula about 11:30. I told Kyle to start watching the driveways to the camps up there and we should see some turkeys. I see a flock and turn around to show it to him. It was in a drive into paper company land which is public hunting. We are about 5 miles from my place and I got a UP fall turkey tag. So I slip out the widow maker and pull off on a Y.
Bang dead Tom. Caught them moving in the pines and I couldn't believe my good fortune, and I did make a good shot through some low pine limbs and a ~ 20+ pound tom with 9 7/8" beard is in the hunting jeep. Off to camp we go.
Took this pic on the way out this morning. The were at the low spot, a gobbler flock (~ 10 or so)
I pulled in to the left and didn't really even sneak in . Just pulled in slipped the 3 1/2" single shot (widowmaker) out of the well packed jeep, stepped out and saw him pick his head up high to search for danger and through the pines, dumped him from the left trail.

Good job on the bird kill, Lou
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Great job Lou! I would be seriously afraid to be a turkey in Mi when you have a tag!

Re: 23.5 hours UP trip. Tom dead
Thanks all, it definitely wasn't my most challenging hunt, but lately work and trying to get some hunting in has been challenge enough. Feels good to get an easy one in the bag and a tag filled.
The trip with Kyle was short, 23.5 hours in the UP, but we managed to get a turkey, go scare a few grouse, and saw a couple does as we pulled into my property for the evening hunt. I stopped on the road and was going to try a sneak on them, but that would leave Kyle sitting in the jeep on the road, and that wasn't right.
Got my trailer winterized and now hopefully get some time to go back up this weekend to look for a wolf. That wolf tag getting filled would make my season if I didn't take another animal. Although my freezer is starving for some delicious venison.
