We had been watching a flock of 9 gobblers pre-season that were out in a picked cornfield for about 3 weeks straight. 8 out of the 9 gobblers were longbeards. They dispersed shortly before season and I was in there this morning and got one fired up off the roost. I thought, "I've got an 8 out of 9 chance that this is a longbeard" He came in on a string and had a little sprig of a beard poking out of his chest!! Go figure!
He did put on a good show for my decoys though...spinning in little circles and puffin up, trying to impress the plastic lady that caught his eye.
8 out of 9...not bad odds

Definitely my 2nd favorite right behind archery. Late-season muzzleloader is quickly moving up though...just something about snow on the ground, freezing temperatures, and a primitive weapon. I love it all!
