On may 20th i had an awesome hunt with a couple close friends from work. we had been planning this hunt for many months where chris would call, dan would tape, and i would try and take my first turkey ever, with a bow. the night before the hunt we went to roost some birds and i was shocked to see the field covered with them. 6 toms, 4 jakes, and 5 hens to be exact...i was pumped! so we set up the blind and were in it first thing the next morning. as it started to get light, we could hear a chain reaction of gobbles coming from the woods behind us. soon after, a hen with 3 longbeards came out strutting about 80 yards away. they never came in but we got some awesome footage! i was a little disappointed but we could hear more toms about to come out. soon after, 2 more longbeards entered the field at about 60 yards and starred at the decoys. one of them had a real low pitch gobble and looked huge! chris worked his magic on the 2 toms and after about 5 minuted they just couldn't handle it anymore and came right into the decoys. The larger tom at full strut right outside the window looked like he was 40lbs!!very exciting. after slowly getting the bow back, i let one rip at the big bird only 10 yards away....he didn't go far before chris got out and gave him the turkey stomp the bird weighed 26lbs., had 2 beards, and we got it all on video..not bad for my first turkey, just wish i would have known about the contest
