Woke up at 5 today to work with our new pup. She was doing great, but I was starting to lose interest when I hear a gobble about 500 yards away up in the woods behind our house. I grabbed my mouth call, fired it up and got an immediate response. Game on! On went the 3D leaf suit and hunting hat and into the woods I went, with Dad looking on from behind, camera in hand. The bird went silent. I climbed up on a stump behind a red oak and let out some soft clucks and yelps. Not a sound from Tom. But I knew he was on the hook. Sure enough, just like clockwork he shows up about 40 yards out, scanning the woods. A couple more clucks had him coming my way fast. He never went behind another tree, so I drew slowly at 20 yards, which stopped him and he never took another step from that place.

Turned out to be a jake, but I couldn't be happier. With all that we had going on this year, I am thrilled to have filled my tags!
