I used too... But it was always hit or miss how it turned out, and the legs are always tough. Most of the meat is in the breasts, and its a lot easier to prepare and it always turns out.

Thats what i have heard. I was thinking for the legs, a crock pot full of turkey gravey and a slow cook for 6 or so hours should get all the meat to seperate off the tendons and grossness i have heard wild turkey legs are made of.

If you.want to do the legs the slow cooker is the way to go. Other than that the breast has all the meat. I sometimes cook the whole bird. And it tastes great if cooked right

well thanks to night wish mike , i wrap my legs and whole turkey in bacon......it gives it juice and flavor .....
i also poke holes in the meat so the bacon juice flows into the bird.....i cooked one of my turkey up north during my hunt , and i just did it in a rooster pan and wrapped in bacon put it on the grill and it was awesome :L:

I am pretty sure you could wrap a turd in bacon and cook it, and it would be tasty.

I agree 100%!

I don't even skin the whole bird anymore, I cut off the beard, skin back to get all the breast meat out and then cut off the tail fan and spurs. When I cut up my tom from this year I didn't even have blood on my hands when I was finished, not to mention there is no crop to mess with or any guts. For the little bit of meat you get on the rest of the bird, I did not find it worthy of the effort, plus it was so dry it was barely edible.

IMO Lots of wasted meat when you don't eat the dark meat.

Here's one of the ways I get very moist delicious wild turkey: http://www.thehuntingbeast.com/viewtopic.php?f=240&t=10513

That is funny, is that where I got that line.

I do too, eat the whole bird. We cook it many different ways then boil the carcass. Amazing how much meat is on that carcass. Turkey lazagna, enchiladas, chilli, gumbo, etc, etc. Even a good head shot small fall turkey gets skinned by me.

I skin them and wrap in turd dresser upper for the initial cooking. Then on to the leftovers
