Where Do You Kill Your Birds?

Unread postby Spysar » Sun Mar 18, 2012 10:51 am

Do you kill your birds in or near a field? Or do you kill them up in the woods, up on a ridge top?

Woods, or fields? Most guys are gonna say both, so pick the one you prefer or have success the majority of the time.

A buck will see you three times, and hear you twice, but he's only gonna smell you once.

Well, I have killed 3 toms, two of the 3 I was in the woods, but not far from fields. The 3rd one I was on the edge of the field and called the tom from in front of me, he came from the woods, crossed the field to my left side, and circled behind me and was in the woods behind the field when I killed him, so he was kind of a woods tom too. I always say if you want to see turkeys sit on the fields but if you want to kill turkeys get in the woods. I think they hang up a lot in the fields though, but I am so far from a turkey expert it isn't even funny!

Voted fields.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I don't like to hunt field turkeys either. I hunt the hardwood ridges deep back in public land in Shawnee National Forest, Il. There's one ridge after another a lot further than anybody wants to walk.

To me there is a lot of difference in the way a gobble sounds when it is in the woods vs in a field. It just seems to reverberate more in the woods.

Ive killed them in both, but since my favorite spot is all woods, well thats where I hunt them. My last one was at a friends, in a field though.

Im gonna say fields. Have killed 4 in the fields and 2 in the woods. I call for alot of people too and it seems our best luck comes from the fields.
