Turkey Drive got the job done!

Unread postby huntinfool14 » Sat Apr 24, 2010 5:39 am

the morning started out listening for birds, as soon as we heard the first gobble, off we went to get as close as we can to the roost tree. we were sneaking into the woods and out flies a hen, i thought we were done there. after an hour the birds flew out into a hayfield. i called forever and they would never come. upon further expection, i crawled to the edge of the woods finding out there were 10 hens, 4 jakes, and 1 tom. now i knew why he wouldnt come in. so i came up with a solution to call my grandpa and have him drive his truck down the hayfield from the road to push the turkeys back into the woods by us. as soon as my grandpa drove in the turkeys started to walk into the woods single file. one by one they passed us and there he was! the last turkey to appear, then something started to spook them so i called the shot! shot the tom at 50 yards. biggest bird he has ever shot. it had a 1 5/8 inch spurs! my grandpa heard the shot and everything. so now hes bummed that he is done for another year.

SWEET!
I did a drive for buddy Dave today on a huge Tom, but he was able to slip around me.

Very cool! Some people think that a turkey drive is impossible but I've killed a few turkeys that way and it actually works quite well.
Congratulations! :D
