from what i understand they work well in fall .....you release the dog and it flushes the flock and brakes them up then you call to them using the LOST call other wises none as the kee kee run. and they will come looking for you thinking its a fellow bird......

Ive had success with this tactic in the fall , but just braking them up my self and then setting up accordingly and calling them in to my location... the turkey thinks its another turkey
Ive even done this in the spring, it works well also

I'd just scatter the flock myself.

A well trained dog will bust the flock and scatter all the birds in different directions, which is the key to calling them back, if the flock doesn't scatter they won't need to regroup at the bust sight.

Just sounds fun. Anytime you get to hunt with your furry friend is bonus time. I had one of my dogs with me on a UP fall turkey hunt a little over 9 years ago, but did more of an ambush and left Darky in the truck. But, I did get her out to retrieve it. Took a pic of my then nine month old Chesapeake retrieving a turkey. I may have to find that pic, it is one of my favorites
