Hunting without Bait
Does anybody have any pointers for a new bear hunter. I live in Washington State so no bait station and no dogs. Just spot and stalk. Please help

Hike, hike, and hike some more. That is all you can really do. you will need to find some good food sources and hike the higher vantage points. Sit down watch and LISTEN they are very noisy feeders. And put in as much time as possible and dont get discouraged. Also when hunting areas of higher human activity the later the bears will be.

Mike makes a good point... When my oldest son got his 1st bear, he shot it the same day we baited the spot for the 1st time ever. The scent brought him in.

I agree with Dan especially if you have other guys baiting in the woods. Scent is more important than bait. Plus, putting scent in a new area gives you an over the bears that check a hunters scent trail before coming into a routinely set bait.
