So, my 2018 Pennsylvania buck tag is filled.
I have 5 days or so of our archery bear season off.
I'd absolutely love to take a bear with my bow.
We have a decent bear population I'd say. 30-60ish killed in the counties I hunted every season.
We CANNOT bait.
I want to continue to scout for deer for next season...run cams...and scout for bear.
I have NO idea where to start. Mostly hill country big woods type setting..but I did cut FRESH tracks in the marsh Saturday.
I don't know what to look for aside from piles of bear poop. I don't know much about hunting or scouting for them at all.

Re: Scouting
My uncle hunts in the Northeast and he doesn't bait. What I gathered from him is.....
1. Glass from a high vantage point if possible
2. He looks for small Meadows where they forage.
3. The best is if you can find wild cherry or apple trees.
4. Look for scratching and trails as well.

Re: Scouting
White oak acorns or hickory nuts right now in the mountains. Went out today to scout for deer and saw 9 bears in an hour all in the white oaks and hickory nuts. Could not walk without stepping in bear poop.
Look for food, bear tracks, bear poop, bear scratching or marking on trees or pine trees broken.

Some do. Some don't. I just might...
