ok so, i came this spring during turkey seaosn and scouted 3 weekends in a row putting on 9 miles of walking . i found some of the thickest areas ive seen in this area. i did have plans to bait some of my old spots from last year. but as hunting public goes, first come first serve. i gladly moved 8-) i fell back on my spring scouting and went over all the area i found... first on the list was hunter sign. i weeded out all obvious baiting sign. second was getting "remote" as possible, via kayak, bike and walking . third, I looked for they THICKEST areas I could find, fourth smaller tracks of public near and around privet that are surrounded by ag and crop fields preferably lots of corn fields. after all that was all said and done i was pertty much set on my spots.

we stared baiting 4 weeks ago. the first week was a wash out for pics.. half the cams were dead! we put out 3 baits the first weekend and 3 more the second.
the first 3 baits were cleaned out. same with the other 3 baits.

one thing i focused on this year was getting away from the hound trainers and other hunters in general. last year i had a camera stolen and my log broke in half, hound tracks all over it....
it seems there is a bait every half mile down ever accessible road. so i decide to take it to the next level. im kayaking in, biking, cut open a few way over grown old logging roads that no one has been done in well over 5 plus years and im walking waaaaay father then usual . the longest walk is 1.6 miles one way!!!
so far i have yet to get a hound on my bait, have some of the biggest bears yet coming in. i may have a surprise :shifty: . my own bear bait buck!!!! but I'm going to keep that under wraps for a bit!

BAIT 1 SKEETER SWAMP
this one is a hike 0.9 miles one way that was a long haul with the log on my back
she decided to call it skeeter swamp :shifty:  I think you can imagine why  ;)
this bait was the first week but the cam was dead. so I had no clue what it was. turns out it was a looker

BAIT 2 OAK SWAMP

I decided to re bait this area from last year. I was hunting giant in this area but never did kill him.
ther is some new baiting sign that popped up, I decided to bait anyway to see if he was around. First week nothing hit. the second week a sow with 3 cubs finally opened the bait … a little slow for this spot considering it was hammered right away last year! I suspect the near by bait has something to do with it well see what happens in the next 2 weeks

i hAD A BAIT near here last year but it got over runned with hounds. there was some absoulte giants comming in. by the time the season stated the bait was cold

so i studied the maps and scouted on foot this spring. i found what i was looking for. lots of bear sign! tracks, scat, even a den  i set the bait out 2 weeks ago...the first week it was opened up and cleaned out by a very nice bear that has my attention !

BAIT 4 - REMOTE

this bait is by far the furthest walk we have it 1.6 miles one way from the truck! ive been looking at this sot for a few years now! fiannly got in there and set a bait. the first week I didn't have a camera on it. but it was cleaned. put a came on the second week and was pleasantly surprised

nice bore coming in. but theres also something else.. a very nice buck is using the bait. interested to see if he sticks around. im hoping to find some rubs soon to I can plan on where to start, ill bet he will be at the first set of oaks near his bedding ;) not gonna share pics for now ;)
