Northern Minny Report

Unread postby Bearman13 » Wed Aug 22, 2018 12:17 pm

I’ve got 30 plus baits out. The report is dogsh@&!

Hardly any hits. They won’t touch anything if they do come in. Remote or close to people. I have never seen so much food in the woods as this season. It’s unreal.

On the brightside I caught lymes disease this past weekend. 2018,is off to a record disaster.

Lyme disease sucks get it treated and STAY WITH THE TREATMENT. My wife has had it twice and has never been the same, fortunately she caught it early.

Not sure about other natural foods, but the hazelnuts around here are loaded. Hang in there.

Doxycycline is an awsome antibiotic, and will have you on your feet in no time, as said before just because you feel 100 percent, take the full length
of what your Dr. Prescribed.
Best of luck!!!

I ran my northern loop today with my wife. They were all hit but one. The one not hit is a new bait. There’s more food on the north loop so I have no clue what’s going on.

The meds are working. My hands and arms are still messed up so is my balance I fell twice. I owe wife my big time.

It’s picking up here. Majority of activity is last hour of light. Big bears and no sow and cubs.

10 hunters out last night. One miss, two bears sighted no shot, two other had bear take off downwind in a hurry.

No bears killed. Baits are still so so. People all over everywhere. We had some people hoard in on us in a couple spots. One of the baits was 40 yards behind me.

Report from other guide in town was they were 1-23. I’ve been doing this a long time and so have they. Yeah be never shot less then 3 bear opening night.

What we can figure out is where are all the bears in the 100-180 pound range??? Everything is well over 200 pounds plus. And where have theyxall been hiding the last few years.

Lots of food still out there. Unfortunately we had a bumper crop of everything. We had no rain until this weekend of course. I set really close to water and that paid off. I knew theyed be in water. Warden said my baits were getting hit the best of anyone’s he seen.

We went 7-13 for the first week. 3 bear at 217, 210, and 202 dressed. We missed one and wounded two we couldn’t find.

Still have guys out hunting. Once the Labor Day weekend ended we started killing.

We had some wolf issues. One guy watched as 3 wolves tore into his bear.

Sounds like a tough year up there as well. Here in 45 it's a bust for most guys. Taxidermists are seeing very few bears come in, everyone I talked to is really struggling to get and hold bears on the baits. Success rates are in the tank, which means hopefully more tags next year. Hopefully.
