Last year I set up a new stand on private property, it was very successful, we shot two nice bears off of it. When I was taking it down I sat in it as I usually do to a new stand, to see if it can be improved for the following year. Just behind the bear bait pit 10 yards is a old hollowed out oak tree a lite bulb went off in my head (picture tells it all). Will be interesting to see if this works well.

Robert and I are almost done placing stands and bait stations, as usual this time of year the truck brakes down and we loose time fixing it but that comes with the territory. We set up a few more combo stands this year that can be used either for a rifle hunter or archery hunter (hollow logs). We are finding ourselves moving rifle hunters further away from the bait stations than in the past.

So far we have had no issues on our County land baits but activity will be picking up in a week and a half.

I wish in MN we could get stands out early. Takes us two days to get all our baits out. Then another two days to get the stands up. Last fall I ran 42 baits and had ladder and hang-on stands on every site.

That sucks Jim....You can set stands up early on private right?

Yes. Those stands stay up. Just undo the straps so they're not tight to the tree. I use barrels on private land.

That hollow tree is awesome mike. Once that bear gets his head in there he won't be able to see any movement.

This bear showed up last year but was a no-show for the hunting season we call him the Panda bear, he has hair missing around his back legs and mid section, have no idea why. Also his face is messed up, deformed slightly, even his right ear will not stand up. Cool bear though, has a nice noggin. Almost looks like a sow with the narrow nose but I think its a boar.


Another nice boar that has been hanging around one of our bait station since end of May...he has really tore up the trees and likes messing with the cameras, glad to have metal bear proof boxes.


This bear is a absolute monster, I cannot disclose its location. A relative sent me the picture. Unfortunately its out of my area to pursue.
