Re: Hunting bear over fresh sign. Possible???
First bear stalk I ever had was with a recurve in hand. Gotta admit I stopped for a second and thought "you sure you wanna do this?" But as soon as the thought popped in out it went and away I went.
Blew that one though. Got in a hurry and took a bad route. Rolled a rock. Bear was out of sight as I was making my way around a small knob. Nobody home when I got around to where it was. Shame too. It was a beauty of a large chocolate boar. Big headed lots of room between the small looking ears and no cubs in tow.

Awesome story Stash. My goal this year is to kill a decent bear from the ground with traditional gear. I always day dream about putting the sneak on one. Has to be a rush.

The grouse with stones was an Italian Canadian. That usually explains it.
The knife was a guy from central wisconsin. 6'6, and built like an nfl linebacker

Pretty sure it was a knife. All I remember from his story was his group took jon boats out to islands on a lake. Maybe lake of the woods? Anyways they had a couple dogs that he described as the scariest animals he ever met. They let the dogs loose and the dogs chased down and pinned down the bear. Once he got there, he jumped on top of the bear and finished it off.
If you see the guy, you would understand. I am a big guy, and he makes me look normal. He asked me to come with one year and I just laughed at him. Couldn't pay me to do that.
And the bears they got were scary big. I think all of the bears were over 500lbs. Wish I had some of the pictures
