Awesome video and bear. Congratulations.

I never heard of a bear tearing off the testicles of another dead bear. Does it happen often? I assume it is a show of dominance.

One other time I shot a large dominant bear and other males attacked it as it was breathing its last, but this is the first time I have ever seen a bear have his loins torn out like that.

I wouldn't call it nervous or afraid, but I have more respect for them than ever. I have been in close proximity to hundreds of bears over the years and the more I learn about them, the more I realize I had been taking unnecessary chances. Once you learn to read their body language and vocalizations, you learn when a bear is aggressive and when he is not. The bears that really put me on edge are the 3-4 year old males, they are more unpredictable than any others. I usually show aggression right way and they back off. So far that's worked, at least. I have been between a sow and her cubs a couple times and that's pretty dicey too, but I got backed out okay.

At the end of the video where I shot the 400-pound bear you can see me woofing at two of them and they slowly backed off. I was backed up with a rifle in that case.
