AM baiting

Unread postby cedarsavage » Tue Sep 06, 2016 1:33 pm

Does anyone bait real early in the am like first light I'm thinking of baiting early this week but because of work it would have to be at first light. Would spooking one off the bait be detrimental?

I remember awhile back beast member PLB shot a 400 pound bear and he was baiting at dark in the morning before he went to work. Some people don't have the option to bait between 10am and 2pm. I've been baiting in the afternoons, I like light.

Maybe condition them to come in more in the afternoon when scent is lowest from baiting early like that? How far do bear bed from bait? They have to hear guys coming in mid day to bait

Should be ok if you make enough noise that a bear can hear you coming... Not that you want to be noisy, you just don't want to spook them by surprise at the bait. I would rather bait midday, but I really try not to bait after 3 pm...

Sometimes I bait at 10 at night sometimes I bait at 6am just after I turn a dog loose, I've got bunches of pics of bears that come in after I baited and turned loose the same morning.
