Upcoming Manitoba bear hunt

Unread postby Freelance Bowhunter » Wed Aug 24, 2016 8:48 am

The outfitter I am hunting with, who has also become a good friend, sent me this scouting camera photo the other day. What do you think of my chances? LOL!

That picture is enough to make me nervous walking into stand in the morning :shifty: .. Apart of me is glad we don't have that kind of population!

Should be a successful hunt though! :D

Very good point. We only hunt afternoons and the Manitoba law requires that a guide pick you up at your stand so you do not have to walk out in the dark by yourself. I have been around bears enough that I don't feel that law is needed... most of the time. But hunts like this may be an exception. You can watch the video of my bear hunt from this place on opening day last fall here:

My bear I shot on this video weighed 400 pounds and scored B&C at 21 inches even.

That's a nice bear! You were just covered in them. Amazing. I may have to think about making a trip up there one of these years.

Its a different type of hunt up there, bears react to humans differently as you can see. Super nice bear. I am glad the law requires the guide to pick up the hunter, most hunters would leave there stands early and I don't blame them.

If the Guide has multiple hunters in camp does he have other guides working for him? otherwise I assume some hunters will get stuck in their stands after dark.

Yes the outfitter must have a couple guides but they do bend the rules a little and sometimes leave a ATV near your bait if you are willing to walk out and meet them. Not everyone is willing to do so, and they will come in and pick you up at your stand unless you request otherwise. If they happen to be tracking another hunter's bear, you may be sitting there a while in the dark so they normally give the option to the hunter.
