Lost my first bear hound to wolves yesterday

Unread postby Blackhorn » Tue Aug 02, 2016 8:19 am

Nice 11 mile run. Was taking pics of the bear in a tree and realized my young male didn't make the tree. Picked him up on the garmin and started the trek in. It was only 900 yards from the road to the dog but it took 2.5 hours to get in to him. It was too late. One wolf was still there when I got there. Real dicey situation.
Went from a great morning of bear training to a horrible day.

I'm sorry to hear that. Glad you made it out of the situation unharmed.

That sucks. Real sorry to hear this.

Been getting alerts every few days from the DNR about dogs getting killed sometimes multiple ones on the same day. Hope they open hunting/trapping of wolves again soon.

It's a joke. Totally out of control. It sucks losing the thousands of dollars that I put into him training but it's really sad how brutal of a death it is. Flat out killers.

Bummer.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Sucks! Heard there were 4 different kills/attacks last weekend which seems higher than normal

Sorry to hear that. Bummer.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

Sorry to hear that. Wolves have to be hunted/managed.

Sorry to hear about losing a dog to darn wolf.

It especially infuriates me since to top it off no open season yet for them...

That sucks! I'm a ethical hunter who follows all laws to the tee, but if I had to deal with those mutts, pretty sure there would be a few less!
