Guesstimate the weight of these bears?

Unread postby Bionic » Wed Sep 23, 2015 1:00 pm

Hello all,

I have a few bears on my trail cams. These two particular bears are without a doubt larger than average for the area, and I was curious as to if anyone can estimate the weight of each bear for me? I'd appreciate it.

Thank you

It's kinda hard to tell from these pics. Nothing to really get perspective from. They both do appear better than average tho. With the first a possible slob. Although it may be a sow because the small bear in the pic looks like an older cub.

Ok, I wasn't sure if the pics would work for judging weight, oh well. Thanks for your input.

A possible slob huh? Awesome. I'm excited to sit in the woods in a week. These pics are taken about 100 yards from my house, so I was pretty surprised about the sizes of the bears.

I was assuming the bear with the young bead was a Sow, and that the lone bear was a boar. Im far from knowledgeable when it comes to bears thougg.

I would say the first one is a big sow and cub. Probably 200+. No way a bigger boar would tolerate a yearling cub like that and the little one would know better than to hang around.

The second pic looks to be a good boar 250+

Just my guess and I am far from an expert judging bears. I will say that both are above average bears for sure.

Interesting, thank you. Now say that bear was 250 lbs, roughly how much meat would that provide?

No idea. Do a Google search and there should be charts available to tell you that.

I shot a 224 gutted with no meat damage and I ended up with 86 lb of meat wit some bone in it. The top bear is a sow and the little bear is 6o lbs gutted. The bottom one is 200 gutted max, maybe even 150 gutted. I always take off 1/3 to make sure. They are big when coming in to the bait till you walk up on them . Then they shrink a bunch. I swear a smaller bear has hair that stands out till it is shot, then the hair lays down . It makes the bear look a lot bigger with the fuzzy hair. Tha t is why so many small bear get shot.
