spotted a bear with my drone
I couldn't see it that well on my monitor on my controller and it has lost a lot of resolution being up loaded to youtube but you can see it for a few seconds.

Re: spotted a bear with my drone
Here is a quick 2nd clip. I hit the button and when it didn't start recording I hit it again and then it started and stopped right away. Got a little jumping on the record button. There is a short delay between the drone and the controller.
again sorry I lost a lot of resolution uploading to youtube.

Re: spotted a bear with my drone
I have a DJI Phantom 3. Cost was $999 plus $149 for an extra battery. If you're going to buy one I'd for sure get an extra battery. If you can get two. The controller flies two batteries with ease so I am thinking it will fly 3 or 4 batteries before you have to recharge. flight time is about 25 minutes per battery. This is my first real drone and I was flying it within 20 minutes of getting it out of the box.
Also I'd get the advance over the professional unless you are planning to make high quality professional videos. The advance has a 1080p video camera and the pro has a 4k video camera. Both have 12mp camera

Re: spotted a bear with my drone
Thanks for the info
I was actually researching the Phantom 3. The advanced vs the standard....any advantages worth the extra 200 bucks? I had thought maybe about buying the standard and an extra battery for the price if an adavanced.
Thanks!!

That is way cool.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Re: spotted a bear with my drone
So how do drones work? You fly based on looking on a monitor? How far can you fly without losing contact with it? Is there some sort of out of range warning? Seems fun, what are your ultimate plans for it?

Re: spotted a bear with my drone
@backstraps I never looked into the standard model Phantom so I really don't know the difference.
@kenn1320 yes it is basically flown through a monitor connected to the controller. I use and Ipad mini 2, original iPad mini will not connect, connected to mine. You can also use your cell phone but it needs to have certain software to run it. It will fly up to 1.2 miles away using GPS but the visual signal will be dropped if you are in a area that blocks the controller, trees or buildings. There is a range warning and if you out fly the range the drone will fly itself back to the original start point if you calibrated it before you took off. I don't know what my plans I just like flying it around. It would be a useless tool for trying to see wild life because it makes a lot of noise and scares animals before it even gets close. It was just luck I seen the bear and it didn't last long.

Re: spotted a bear with my drone
Hate to turn this thread negative but although it's a neat toy I am going to get extremely upset when these start invading public hunting areas in large numbers. We know it's going to happen when the prices drop.......just a matter of time. I would think the DNR will eventually have to take a stance on it if it gets too bad.
Again just my thoughts and nothing against you natvbearhntr. I think they are cool but could really ruin the hunting experience for many if they are abused.
