MINNESOTA BEAR APPLICATIONS
Will be available April 5th. The DNR is behind because they are still setting kill quotas.

Re: MINNESOTA BEAR APPLICATIONS
I think I'm going to apply for Area 51 this year. Last year in 22, it was just so tough because of the distance. 5 hour drive makes it so we'd have to leave at noon on Friday to set camp before dark and then get home at like 3am on a Monday morning before work. If I don't draw (which is likely with 0 PP), I'll be waiting at the counter at 10am when the surplus go on sale. And if I don't get one of those, I'll get a non-quota tag and hunt along the St. Croix between Pine City and Danbury, or maybe one of the other non-quota forests.
Does anyone know if applying in a group gives a better chance of drawing? I've heard it does from some and doesn't from others.

As long as everyone has 0 points and you don't add people with no points when you start to gain points

Nice! You shouldn't have any problem drawing with a preference point. Last year my buddy and I both drew with zero points, despite the only being 50 tags. I can tell you guys where not to hunt lol!

Re: MINNESOTA BEAR APPLICATIONS
31 is a gigantic zone. Duluth up to Ely, borders BWCA across to Portage and the entire shore. The 3 digit unit code can give a lot away.

It has no bearing group or not. Points are what matters.bowhunter15 wrote:Does anyone know if applying in a group gives a better chance of drawing? I've heard it does from some and doesn't from others.

Some of my friends have been really successful getting leftover tags. They generally draw every third year and hunt with leftovers the other two years. But the key is waiting at the license counter the minute they go on sale. Small gas stations are best, because you need to be first in line, which is tougher to do at something like a Gander Mtn. Not sure if you can pick up the leftover online. But the one time my buddy was second in line, the guy in front of him got a tag and he didn't.
