Some baits are hot some are hit then cool for day or two. Lots of hazelnuts and dogwood berries. Started with 40 baits had 37 hits after first week. I dropped a few and added a couple. Better than average bears on camera, few sows with 3 cubs, some big bears at last light or late night, one beast is coming in on prime time. Lots of wolves.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Some of my best spots were lost due to logging. Woods is pretty quiet for competition. Then again I run my area pretty hard. Even tho it's public. Sorry if that offends people.

I'll post some pics when I get time. Weather been rainy a guy loses a lot of scent when it rains every day. So when it's nice heavy on the scent. Got two solid baits per hunter. I'd like 3. But I told everyone it could be tough year. I'd rather have 2 solid baits then 1 solid bait and two so so or three so so. All we can do is hunt. Got a tag myself. I've shot a bear every year I've had a tag but one. I did shoot one but we couldn't find it. Hit him high.

Some bait is working better then others. Been a lot of hard work. Hope Monday goes well. Sears just delivered another new 26 cubic foot freezer and I'm looking at a walk in.

Been a bad start to my bear season. My 7 year old daughter and I packed the truck full of 1200lbs of bait and my bow and everything else. It takes us 5 hours to get there and half way there my driver (the guy who drives my milk truck when I'm gone) says his dad's not well. So I then turn around and come back home.

Later that night his dad passed. His dad has been in rough shape forever. Anyhow the funeral isn't until Wednesday so I can't go up until late that night after I'm done hauling milk. This is the 1st time in 25 years that I'll miss the bear opener. :(

My dad lives about 45 minutes from where we hunt. He has some bait but I have 99% of it. He baited Saturday for me and will again Monday or Tuesday. He don't have much bait, maybe 100lbs to put out between 6 baits. I'm afraid some of these bear are going to leave and head somewhere else. There's tons of bear hunters where we are.

We've got a couple nice bear hitting but nothing huge. 250lb range at best.

Rainy pretty steady. If it moves out when they say it's gonna be a good night. Fingers crossed.

Good luck to you and your clients. Man! You run a lot of baits, must be a lot of work, imagine if MN let you start baiting in May.
