Monster bears at NWO again...

Unread postby dan » Tue Jun 17, 2014 11:49 am

Hi Dan

Hope all is well with you and your family. If you could post these pics and videos it would be greatly appreciated. I have never seen so many big monster bears before, but it is breeding season for them. Look at the size of this bear, in the first picture its me applying some Bacon Bear Scents on this maple tree, the next video is a huge bear rubbing the scent on himself, notice we are standing almost in the same spot, I am 6ft 245lbs, this bear will be around 500lbs by this September.

Next Picture is a color phase Sow and yearling, very rare in Wisconsin, picture was taken from a friend of mine in his back yard only 1/2 mile from one of our bear baits, we had her on that bear bait last year but she had cubs, couldn't shoot her. She must have lost one cub sometime this past Winter or Spring.

Next three Pictures is of a Monster old boar, one of those bears everyone dreams about. He and other multiple bears are visiting this bait station on a daily basis, hopefully he sticks around during the bear season.

Second video is a Sow by the tree I put Bacon gel Scent on, notice the big boar up in the left hand corner next to a field edge, must be his girlfriend.

Third Video is a nice boar that will be over 300lbs by September. I sprayed some Bacon Bear Scent on the pine branches.

Most guys exaderate the size of a bear. At 500 lbs , that is no exaderation. Very rare do you see a bear that big in June.

The big bear are cool but the color phase sow and cub is just awesome.

I see some cubs from time to time that look brown.....one last year that was part of a sow and 4 cub family. Do the cubs grow out of the dark chocolate phase as they age?

I've never seen an adult color phase in WI.

Thanks for sharing.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

My wife and I filmed a Sow with 3 cubs about 8 years ago, two of her cubs were color phase, one was shot as a yearling a year later, there is another very big Sow out there some where that I haven't seen for over a year now but there is a huge color phase boar that we had on camera from last year, nocturnal bear, only night time pictures. Desk Top computer crashed last year and I lost tons of pictures and videos, very disappointing mostly because I had hundreds of great pictures of the famous Bayfield County monster Bear "Snaggle Tooth".
Wish I had a camera for every bait station I have out there, those big seasoned boars and don't forget the old Sows are so incredibly intelligent, I have the utmost respect for these creatures. There uncanny ability to sense something is wrong or out of place when approaching a bait station is awesome. You could place a thumb tack on a tree 15 yards from the bait and they will notice it, but there hunger, repetitious and habitual behavior is what gets them in trouble :L: , they some times do let there guard down for food and for the hunter its being at the right place at the right time.

WOW! The one in the third picture down looks like a monster bear (not that I have ever hunted or even seen one in person). Just the way head head is makes him look mean as can be.

Looks like a great place for a first bear hunt for me. How difficult is it to draw a tag? Typically, how many preference points are required and even then are you likely to draw a tag? Thanks.

The northern zones take probably 7 to 9 years I'm guessing. But zone C only takes 3
