I believe that particular guide Dan was pinched for unregistered baits. I tell clients you get what you pay for. I don't want price shoppers In my camp. I want hardcore hunters.

There's a reason I had a 218 pound average last year on bears killed. We grew up hunting, trapping, fishing and guiding here. We live and work in the woods. Scout the spring heavy looking for new areas etc.

Do you remember the name of the outfitter Dan. The one who the DNR had the big bust on was North Coast Baits. They now run under North Shore Bear and Wolf Hunts. The guy who runs it lives in Fairmont MN.

I don't recall the names, but the guys in the camp next to me were indeed busted for unregistered baits. The guide told the DNR all his clients were "friends" and that no money transferred hands, and some how got his clients to go along with that... I felt sorry for the people hunting with them, I even let a couple of them have some of my active baits that I don't intent to hunt ever again when I left.
The warden was sure checking me out too... But thats ok I guess, we were following all the rules. I think he was suspicious cause of how far we drive to bait and scout. I got stopped and checked out 4 times by the same warden.
I "THINK" he was satisfied the last time he stopped us.

Has anybody from the hunting beast booked with you yet?

Tom is by the book 100%. No, I haven't had anyone book from the forum yet. I've had a few call today from Iowa and Wisconsin. Not sure if they're members.

As far as hunters going along with a scam artist so called guide. The hunter are no better in my eyes. And they're breaking the law also.

It will be a better world for all of us if they clean it up in that area... Everybody I have ran into up there who guided seemed to be an outlaw from out of town... Your about the 1st one that seems reputable, and technically, we ain't met yet. Would like to get up there camping this summer, hopefully we can meet up while I am in the area.

I drew my Boundary Waters Canoe Area permit!!! Zone 22. My buddy from work got his too. I'm sure I will have lots of questions regarding the logistics and planning of this hunt so I'll probably start a new thread.
