WI Bear Outfitter

Unread postby JohnnieU » Sat Nov 30, 2013 12:05 pm

I have enough points to draw a Wisconsin bear tag this year and do not have time for a DIY so I am going to have to go through a outfitter/guide. I have two buddies going along on the trip and one of them works with a guy that went through an outfitter called Tail Feather Lane Game Farm and had a good hunt (Game farm is pheasants, not big game). I put a call into the guide/owner and he answered all my questions and at this point we are strongly leaning toward booking a hunt with him next year. Has anyone hunted with or know someone who has hunted with this operation? Any input would be appreciated, thanks!

I have 11 points and the guys I am planning to go with have 9...I think we can draw anywhere. As of right now we are looking at A and D. I have hunted zone A before the zones changed and everyone got bears.

Mike Foss runs a good operation here is his website: http://www.northernwisconsinoutfitters.com/ Mike is a member of this forum, and a lot of the guys here have hunted with him, including me. His clients have taken some monster bears and his success rate is very high. I don't know of the guy you mentioned. Mike is very popular across the country though, and may already be booked for this year.. You would need to check with him. He is a very easy going guy though, and if he is booked can likely tell you who he would recommend. He knows most of the bear guides who are doing well in Northern Wisconsin.

Thanks for the input by this forum. I booked my hunt with Mike and have two guys coming with me. I would not have found NWO without this forum. With the increase in permits I am sure my group will draw tags and we are looking forward to hunting the northwoods in September!

I would make sure the dogs don't get to start first in the zone your are hunting. that switches every year.

In my neck-of-the-woods, My success rate has never changed even if the Hounds go first. What most people don't take into consideration is hounds have a training period starting in July until just a few days before the bear season opens, "every year". Those bears are used to being run, spooked or what ever you want to call it, in other words, I have found out it just doesn't matter. In a few instances we have had hounds on the baits when a hunter is in his tree stand, hounds leave, hunter thinks his evenings hunt is over with, only to shoot a nice bear a 1/2 hour later.
