It doesn't hurt to apply for a tag. You should draw in Zone C.

Yes. Rusk and Barron Counties south of Highway 8 if you are looking for higher bear population. I shot my last one in SE Marathon Co.

I'm in zone C, Shawano Co., and there is very large population of bear in my area. I have had several trophy bear on camera over the past 4 years of being a bear hunter but they are tough to get moving during shooting times. I have a question aout tags though. I am planning on signing up my wife and boys to start gaining points. Once I do this after they have so many points we have to apply for a tag or it is automatic after you aquire so many points?

Thanks

I believe you can keep accumulating points until you actually indicate that you would like to try and draw a tag.

I got drawn for a Zone C bear tag with only 3 preference points this past year.

You can apply for a tag and even if you don't draw keep accumulating points.............Zone A will take between 5-7 points to draw, Zone B Can be upwards of 10 points, Zone C is the easiest to draw.

just remember when applying for a tag to note if your in a zone where dogs can be used. I think the seasons go every other year with when the dogs can be used. one year dogs can be used in the beginning of the season and the next year, the dogs run later in the season. it would probably be better to opt for a tag when the dogs run later, unless of course your going to use dogs.

Thanks Brian, I don't use dogs to hunt but it would help to stay out of the way of those that do. I will read up on that on the DNR site.

Nice PLB which county do you hunt in? Do you have a picture? I don't recall seeing that but I don't remember when I came on board here.
