Here is a size comparison photo of my first bear and this years bear. I will be whitening it this afternoon. Does anyone know a good way to secure the teeth back into the jaw bone and glue the two sides of the jaw back together? I was going to use hot glue but I don't know how well that will hold up?

Re: Working on bear skull...
We use clear gorilla glue at the shop to hold teeth in. Use the gorilla glue on the lower jaw as well. After glue is applied to both halves, use a rubber band to hold them in place. Leave it that way for 1 day, then cut the bands off. Works every time.
Do you use flat clear coat after you are done with the skull?

Thanks for the tip Jeff. I do not use a clear coat on the skulls. Can you tell me the benefit of that? Thanks Rene

Re: Working on bear skull...
Get yourself a can of krylon flat clear coat. After you are done boiling, picking, cleaning, etc. spray the scull with the flat clear coat. It helps prevent the skull from yellowing. The yellowing is caused by not gettin all the grease out. The clear coat helps slow the grease leaching out.
When I do skulls I boil using cascade dish washingdetergent. It has a degreaser and whitening agent.

I just posted the whitening process under a post about burying a deer scull. Check it out. PM me if you have any question, I'd be glad to walk you thru the process.

Re: Working on bear skull...
And here it is finished. I didn't use the whitening powder just because to me it leaves the skull flaky so I only used the 40 volumn cream. The top of the skull had 8 hours of whitening and the jaw had only 5.
Here is what it looked like at the start. This was wet from being pressure washed.
