I'll tell the story of a guy I know. He was tracking a wounded bear after he shot it on an early spring hunt in Manitoba. There was a light snowfall so he was following the tracks as well and a few drops of blood in maybe an inch of snow. He got into a spruce thicket to where the tracks went under a spruce. As he bent over to go under the boughs, he realized the track below him was actually two front foot tracks almost perfectly on top of one another. He immediately jacked a shell into his 30-30 and turned around, shooting the bear through the neck as it lunged for him with both front feet. If there hadn't been snow on the ground he would be dead.

My latest Story in www.onwisconsinoutdoors.com is on a bear confrontation I had about a month ago. I have pushed bears off baits before but never have they held there ground like this one did. Its the scariest one I have had yet  . The next time I baited that stand my anxiety level was sky high.

Any chance you could post a direct link to your story? I couldn't find it.

I used to run bear with hounds, the close bear encounters in the big woods are one of the reasons it was a blast, it's whole different adrenaline rush

Found it thanks Mike. Some nerve racking stuff for sure. Is this bear still visiting your bait?

No....he is not there anymore. There were 5 different bears that stayed for awhile then moved on. I had one 3 legged boar that was there for about a month, then got him on camera 5 miles away for about 3 weeks then he also disappeared to who knows where.
Here he is: [bbvideo=425,350]https://youtu.be/xXUrTu5m9RI[/bbvideo]
The later in the baiting season I get him at a different bait station miles away.

We where in the Gatlenburg TN area over Labor Day weekend, they have lots of bears in the park. We went for a hike by an old homestead, lots of other people on the trail, and someone was looking up in this tree, low and behold, there was a bear in the tree, maybe 25' up. May have been a bee hive up there as it was trying to get something out on one limb. Kind of neat, but I couldn't believe it was so close to where all these people where. Neat area.

Tuesday night as I got out of my stand I started walking down the trail out. I decided to turn on my flash light and less than 5 feet in front of me were 2 cubs. I turned around and went back up my stand because I couldn't see the mother bear and didn't want to be ambushed. After about 30 minutes in the stand I couldn't scare the cubs off, now 3 of them, and never did see the mom so I took my chances and made a quick exit from the woods. 25 minutes later the mom was on the trail cam pics.
