Great story and hunt.

Why is this though "some of that pressure is not to friendly to non-resident do-it-yourselfers"? Do a lot of folks there not like out of state folks and or want them to use guides?

James

There are a lot of guides up there and even though its public land, they try and claim areas. We were lucky this year as the guys in the camp next to us seemed a lot more friendly. But we have had some issues with guides from other camps.

As a resident I can say that I experienced the same thing mainly with a guide or two trying to move in and claim an entire area. Years ago they would put up big signs at the entrance of a logging road like they own all the public land. We worked through it. It is unfortunate that there are those that feel this way about non-residents. To me it's just another hunter trying to do the same thing I am. We all need to cooperate and respect each other's bait sites. There are x number of tags and whether you are from Texas, Wisconsin or Minnesota it should not matter one bit. A few shallow thinkers out there give a bad name to the many.

That's an awesome skull. What are you going to do with it? Mount? Rug?

I haven't been following this story below but by weight this guy's bear might be the MN record - shot Sept. 9 this year.

http://www.outdoorlife.com/blogs/newshound/2013/10/possible-state-record-black-bear-taken-minnesota Article said the hide weighed 170 pounds which is heavier than most MN black bears.

Congratulations.

What a giant!! Milacs is knowing for big bodied bear being its in ag country and lots of oaks in the area for them to feed on. Heads don't always fit the size though. Can't wait to hear what this thing scores. Thanks for the link!!
