Meat for bait ?

Just a curiosity question about using meat for bait.

In WI. You can’t use meat or animal bi products for bait. Anyone know why?

I am not arguing the law or anything, just curious as to why meat or bones is illegal. Thanks for any help.

I always wondered the same thing. I can't imagine it is considered an advantage to getting a bear because you can use scent products that smell like meat and bacon.

Bacon is a different story... Thats outlawed because pork causes a disease in bears if eaten raw.

I did not know that thanks for the information. I am assuming the bacon scent I buy from bear baits is ok? This year I bought it in gel form.

Yep... as long as its just scent it should be ok.

Reason you can't use pork (raw) here In Minnesota Is because of Trichinosis. Pork has to be fully cooked or anything (humans Included) can get sick and die. We can use smoked or cooked pork here. Not sure why you can't use meat In Wisconsin. Honestly I didn't know you couldn't use meat In Wisconsin where baiting Is legal.
