Where do you order your trees from?

Unread postby SEOHBB » Mon Mar 23, 2020 11:32 am

I am looking to pick up a couple soft mast trees. Looking for reccomendations for tree type for deer drawing power in October thru December along with nursery that ship. Are there any nursery out there that dont ship bulk loads. I only need 3-4 trees but places I've looked at only ship in bulk. I'm in Southern Ohio.

There’s a few in MI I have used coldstream and oikos..
There’s another I can’t recall. Usually you can go to a local greenhouse or something, pay a bit more and get a potted tree.

I hear a LOT of hype on keifer pears. Supposedly they drop around the rut. I don’t have any though.

I tried Morse last year, I was just trying to gather ideas for any other good ones out there that dont break the bank. I put 5 kieffer pear, 3 whitney crabs out from Morse and I had two apple trees from a local nursery already planted.

For those of you that have tree plots, I have a 1.5 acre field shaped like an egg, the far east end has the above mentioned trees planted. Would you guys leave the middle section for an annual planting of rye-wheat- etc, then put the new trees in the west corner? Or do you run them the length of the field and plant the length with grains and or clover.

Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Walmart when they go on clearance. They have awesome deals if you pay attention.

I have been getting mine from the Arbor Day Fountain. I purchased a membership for 15 bucks and got 10 free trees. Then with the membership, trees are at a discounted rate.

Liberty, Enterprise, Freedom, Arkansas Black, Kerr, Frankin

Ryan at Blue Hill has a lot of late dropping pears and crabs, but you may be late to the game this year.

Stark probably has some of the apples listed above. That list should give you apples September into November with disease resistance.

Kieffer is a good choice.

Cummins is phenomenal. Wafler nursery also does a great job of whatever rootstock you want plus cultivar. They will grow it on for a year or even two if you wish. Both offer very reasonable pricing. I graft my own, but buy my rootstock from Cummins.
