Water hole ?

Unread postby beartruth2 » Mon Apr 17, 2017 10:26 am

I hunt a 75 acre property at the north end is a creek at the south end is a small water hole that goes dry during the summer. Would it be worth hauling water in to keep the small hole full or just let the deer use the creek?

Hauling water to a water hole to fill it likely would have poor results. The human scent / activity keeping it full would have negative results... Placement is key with water holes too, as in relation to bedding in the direction they want to travel, or with rut water holes, being along a cruising area. So, if I am understanding this correctly this is an existing water hole? iS IT in the perfect location? If it is, I would take action to make the water hole hold water on its own by either adding a liner, or bentonite, and berm it to make it deeper and funnel run off water to it if possible... If its not in the right location, I would not bother much with it.
