Rerouting movement through cuts

Unread postby mattyq2402 » Sat Feb 25, 2017 11:46 am

Has anyone ever made timber cuts in draws and cuts to force movement upward toward top third? I have multiple lower trails that run across draw which deer use and was thinking to block those routes, is this a good idea?

Make the route you want them to take easier than what was there and they will use it. I've mowed trails through crp and they became highways. Killed a nice eight as he walked down one of the trials from bed to food

This would be done in hill country also. My draws are not very deep or distinct which allows for movement at all levels. I think they are good for accessing from bottom up and dropping trees along the draw would improve my access

It is very easy to re-route their movement where legal.

I used to hunt a "hidden" trail that ran between two shallow ridges. It was a gimme freezer filler spot for years until a tree fell blocking access to the trail for the deer so they went around another way. Deer are lazy and will usually take the path of least resistance.
