New Area-Bedding tips

Unread postby ScottRejholec » Wed Jun 01, 2016 1:56 am

Hello fellow beasts!

I'm new to the Beast, and learning a ton on here. I'm the only hunter in my family, so being on here is very helpful to me in becoming a smarter hunter. To this date I never really focused in on bedding areas. With this aerial of a swamp, where would you guys start to look for beds? I appreciate any advice!

Could be bedding all over most of that area, it all needs to be walked, including the corners and intersections of those ditches/canals.

I don't have access to mark it up from work, but I would concentrate on the transition edge where the cattails meet the brush... Looks like awesome bedding!!! I would also consider buying my Marsh bedding DVD in the BEAST store... Not trying to push a sale, just trying to help you. The DVD goes into great depth at exactly what to look for, and the bedding tendency's of marsh bucks... it will take years off your learning curve.

Get that DVD, it is an eye opener. Two hours of pure content, worth well more than it costs!!!

Ive watched it over and over ive taken notes even to help retain information. Great coupled with marsh bucks id reccomend watching marsh bucks first to get an overview of whats going on and about the mindset then transition to marsh bedding and get into the more technical aspects of things. Just my opinion though. These dvds dan and his people put together are solid gold as far as information for locating and killing mature animals goes.

I'd start on the areas I marked.

The thick brushy area to the SE should also be walked.

Wow that's an excellent looking area! You are lucky to have access to hunt there. If I saw that on any of the public I hunt I'd be all over it! Good luck!

One quick tip Scott, lone trees/shrubs in the cattails are sometimes hard to see on an aerial. They should never be overlooked, but keep in mind, as you walk along the transitions line if there is no trail heading to that lone tree, there is no bed!

Find the trail(s) THEN go to the tree. I figured that one out the hard way my first year of scouting. nothing like busting cattails for no reason LOL!
