disk cultivator

Unread postby exojam » Thu Apr 28, 2016 2:51 am

Has anyone ever used a cultivator like the one shown below with any success? Looking to try and get at least 2-3" down in both my lawn and in the forest for a food plot. Thanks.

What will you be pulling it with? ATV, lawn tractor, small ag tractor? The heavyer the disk the better it will cut. I have a 5ft disk I pull with a small tractor it does the job. I also put cement blocks on it if it is heavy sod iam trying to bust up.

A tiller may also be an option.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Add some cinder blocks and will will take 2 -3 passes providing the ground is not that hard.

A tiller would be faster.

I have a Groundhog Max - goes on the back of an ATV/4 wheeler/etc.

Have only used it in my Honda 250 in my back yard and it works. The 250 is a bit small for it. Will work for what I'm using it for - 1/2 acre plot in the woods. Not trying to turn 6 or 8 inches of dirt, just 2-3-4 and it will do that well.

Might work with your lawn tractor.

Check out the vidoes. They are for real.

Interesting as it looks like the rotor blades go from small to large, as you work into the center. I think, really I know it is past my budget.

Thank you for posting it though as you never know who may want the information later.

Atv ones, like summit I have, typically lack weight to use unless the soil is moist and you nuked the plants prior.

The ground hog max is unique in that it uses the weight of vehicle you are pulling it with. You pull up on 2-4 inch blocks and let the plow down. Then pull off the blocks and you have substantial downforce. I use mine in a rocky area and it takes a beating and is very durable. I highly recomend.

I think you're going to be disappointed. Even with cinder blocks this is a light implement for ground engagement.

I purchased a Groundhog Max this year, and absolutely love it, a little pricey, but worth it in my opinion.

I've got some pictures from groundhog max work on my journal page.

My comments - need a 400 cc+ size rig - I have a 250 and needed to get the disc 1 inch lower but it wasn't having any of that.

Irregular ground is tough due to 4 wheeler changing angle of the disc/plow. I did a bit on an old logging deck with lots of tire ruts and it was less than easy. Doing an old tote road was much easier...and doing an area that was tilled before was simple.

Hard to remove grass - takes a bit of work.

Them suckers THROW dirt. Felt a like I was running a rooster-tailing boat. Video won't upload to photobucket, so you have to take my word for it.

Would I buy it again - gonna have to say yes.

X3 on the groundhog max. I like mine. Its great for those spots where you can't get the tractor or other atv implements.
