Last year I was ground hunting.
This year I have a Tree Saddle and have learned how to quietly get in and out of the woods :)
This is only my 2nd season so i am learning.
Saw a good number of deer which all went nocturnal after I kept bumping them figuring out the beds etc.
There are Persimmons, Acorns, NO crops.
The Property owner has now fenced the open pastures but still have a good 10' open perimeter.
He is also building a small cabin about halfway up the left side of the map on the left side.
You can see the clearing.
The notes on this map are based on LAST year.
The ones that don't say "Bedding Area" are stand locations.
I've hunted 3 times and haven't seen any deer yet.
Been hunting the outside corners and they aren't coming down.
We had 80 degree temps in the afternoons though...cooling off now.
It is a good deer habitat but there isn't an easy focus for food.
I am thinking about planting a "Hot Spot" up in the top left where it says "Scrape Site Clearing".
No one goes back there except me and it was a major crossing trail last year with a big line of Scrapes.
It gets good sun, had beds nearby and is close to water run-offs.
It is difficult but possible in the right wind to circle around up to the "Ridge Rub Trail" from the West side.
Hiking up the East side, I have bumped deer and been snorted at a few times.
On the East side of the map at the "Hillside Rub Trail" I have seen Bucks in the 10am-11:30 range and a couple at 4:30pm (last year).
I have also seen Deer/Sign on the West Ridge but there is only good access to that ridge from the South.
You CAN climb up from the East but it's a workout and not quiet.
If I find a good spot, I have considered cutting out a trail and putting in a rope.
Sorry to write so much but hopefully it helps :)
Thanks for any input!
