DROUGHT!

Unread postby backstraps » Fri Jun 29, 2012 12:16 pm

In my areas, we are into our 4th week of hot dry weather.

Our deer mostly have to depend on browse for food. With the drought here, we normally smaller
rack sizes on our deer during droughts. Do you guys deal with simular conditions there?

How does the drought effects your hunting and hunting strategies?

The drought could effect rack size but I think in most areas there is enough green to carry the antler growth over for this year. It could be more of an issue next year or for a couple of years.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Not sure about other areas, but here in Michigan we had a very early "green up", so the forage was available to the deer earlier this spring. Yeah, it's been dry now, but I think they got a head start with the mild winter/early spring.
