Newly created pond located on my property.

Any suggestions. I have standing water way too excited!

Can you plant in that field or is it cropped? If not maybe along the edge?

The time to ask for suggestions is usually before you put the water hole in... If it were me, I would of tried to keep it in the timber, and very close to primary buck bedding, with a hunting set up on an off wind.
If your just using the pond for taking inventory, that might be a great spot... And I guess that could be a good kill spot on some properties, but for the most part it is very difficult to get 5+ y/o bucks to walk out in the open for a drink in daylight.

best that I could do with the logging process. Thought it would be good to put a water resource near the food plots and bedding area. Seems as though they would stage here, sip water and then go to feed. ??????

I would treat it kind of like a food plot... Can you get between it and the bedding, closer to the bedding?

This pond is upwind from bedding, between food plot and bedding.

That's what I had thought, but it could still be done after the logging is done, travel corridors/feeding areas are established and bedding gets straightened out.

That field would be great to put into CRP or at least use some switchgrass to try to create a travel corridor for bucks up to 3.5 or maybe 4.5 Depending on your hunting pressure.

I agree, some heavy tall grass around the pond might help the situation a little.

Good ideas.


The surounding open area is now corn, should create some cover. Once the water level gets somewhat established I will plant winter wheat or some sort of tall grass.

If timber is close enough can you hinge cut a few trees on either side of where you want to have deer come into water...

Gives them a secure feeling and forces them into a funnel for your shooting chnaces...
(Even help clear a little path 1-foot wide and sprinkle with Doe urine along path to educate them of the where abouts)

I can drag tree tops from ridge closer to the edge and place them parallel to skidder trail?

You don't necessaryly need it right beside the pond. You could use this/create this as a staging area...
