Managed to work some Steelies from a trib feeder. Water was high and dirty in the main river so we opted to work a small feeder which boasted some dandies.

Re: Steelheading the Tribs from this weekend
Stealth, some were in the holes and some just ahead of the fast water. They are starting to make their beds. The water in the feeders warm faster which starts the spawn faster. We were drifting fresh spawn on a circle hook tipped with yarn emulating a fly. We spooked fish also but would fall back into the undercuts in the holes and they would just slam the rod out of your hand. Some places we couldn't get to without spooking so I would go up river and walk in the water and murk it up and follow until we got over the fish and when it cleared I was in position to get the drift through. When the smoke cleared it was on!!! A lot of brush to work through which made for some exciting battles. I can wait to get out into the main river Sunday (After the workshop on Saturday with Dan) hopefully clarity will clean up. I don't really like seeing the fish but every year it starts out this way.
