I did a little scouting today on a small private property that I hunt.
I was checking out a bedding area on a gently sloping point and saw a deer leg bone. I picked it up and thought that’s a good sized leg bone. Then I found a good size shoulder bone. I thought this had to come from a nice buck. I looked around and under a buckthorn bush I could see a small portion of the forehead of a deer skull sticking out. As I got closer I could see the jaw area was missing and antler burrs going under the leaves. I picked up the skull and here is what I found. The G2s are both 9.5" long. I also found part of the right main beam and what appears to be part of the right G3 (see left side of picture where I set it on a stick close to where it would have been on the rack). It looked like the skull had been there a few years. I walked that same area last year and I remember seeing the leg bone but didn’t think much of it and didn’t pick it up at the time. I probably walked 15 feet from that skull last year and didn’t see it. I suspect he was wounded by a hunter or got hit by a car and made it to the thicket and died there. What a shame.
Here are some pictures of heavily used beds on points.

Awesome post and pic's... I have found many big dead bucks scouting the bedding areas. Seems to be where they go if they are sick or wounded...
I have found many a great spot while tracking a wounded buck too.
