Uh Oh...What now??

Unread postby kwaldeier » Wed Aug 24, 2011 1:48 am

Last Thursday we have some pretty sever storms roll through my neck of the woods. We had pea size hail for 35min that looked like snow when it was done and 70-90 MPH winds. Needless to say that the corn and beans were destroyed. I have not been out yet to check on my cameras or to see the damage of my timber. Our house got it pretty good as well  Basically destroyed ANY row crops...Now what would the deer be depending on?Oaks?

If your crop fields are kaput you still have time to plant winter wheat. That stuff will come up fast and draw deer all year long.

You have an opportunity to be the only field food source if you plant quickly! ;)

That kind of wind will take most of the acorns off the trees too.

It may actually put alot of row crop on the ground which will keep the deer using them. Although the farmers yields may be down there will be crop all over the ground.

Sorry for the destruction of your property I am thankful that you and yours were not hurt. As far as hunting you do have time to make the best of it as other have said. You always hunt deer based upon the most limited resource. If you have the only solid food source around you may end up with the best hunting around.

I was thinking the same, but looks like they were not quite fully developed, but should be some food on the ground.

Good luck and like Indianahunter glad you werent hurt, and hope everyone else is alright. Your in MO right? What part?

I would check the oaks and if indeed the acorns are on the ground the deer will be there early season... theyre probably there now!! They will pick away in those fields also, but if acorns are down, thats where they are now and will be until late season when they can't dig thru the deep snow and will hit the leftover cropfields.
