8-14-11 Scout

Unread postby kwaldeier » Mon Aug 15, 2011 3:37 pm

Went to check out an area of my private land that i am thinking about putting a blind or stand on. Think it went pretty well, i found a few hidden trails with only deer tracks(Huge for me!),some pretty decent trails, some Poo, a dead head and i THINK my first ever bed!!! :o 8-) However it is pretty thick in there and i didnt find any definite stand spots or travel patterns :( Found a pretty good size track in a bean field. I was hoping to find a trail from beans,to pond then onto our land but no luck.

What kind of poo is this? lol Nvm :)

My questionable bed. Why i am unsure is because it was about 3 ft long with no hair :( and it was not matted down as much as i thought. Great spot though! Very well protected. Cant see farther than 10 ft so i assume he is relying on sound.

Cant see from this angle but this little tree on the right has a rub on the back side of it...

Small 8 dead head :(

Looks good and it appears by the track you have at least on mature deer on the property. The bed you found sounds like it was probably from a small yearling from the size you described. Good luck there this fall.

One word of advice.......next time you use your GPS for a reference make sure get it off the page with the location coordinates on it!!
Probably doesn't matter for you since it is private land but on public that could be a huge mistake!

good scouting mission! With this recent cool down of weather I have been anxious to get out in the woods myself. I am afraid of burning up my spots. Did you jump any deer on this mission?

When you said "dead head" I was expecting to see a grateful dead follower sitting in the bushes not a deer skull !
