The 8 point in my avatar pic popped out about 20 yards away from where the following bed pic was taken. Looks like I posted the pic last february.

Funny how I can look at a picture of a bunch of dirt and brush and remember right where the pic was taken

I'll add one that I've found this year. I should get in the habit of taking more pics of the beds. I jumped the deer out of this bed but never saw him. Found two days after the season closed this on Jan 2

Notice the old treestand steps in the background. I found another bed for another wind direction also underneath an old treestand.

Check out there body positions, if you look close there back is arched and there legs are to one side. Looking for that arch, or marks/impressions from legs and feet have helped me see how the deer laid and on what wind.

I love seeing photos of these buck beds, really helps me identify little spots that I used to overlook. Here are 3 recent buck bed finds. One of them is relatively close to a great bed I found this past shed season which seemed like a bed set up for any northerly wind and this bed I stumbled upon as I was headed in to clear out a stand site for the other. This bed is certainly set up for a southerly wind and is on the leeward side of a gentle sloping ridge through some old clear cut. Big bodied deer came out of it as I made my my into hang the stand.

I just found this bed about 2 weeks ago as I moved a trail camera to a new location and cut across the far side of small of grass and alders on the far side of a creek which creates a little corner shaped piece of cover between the creek, a corn field, and an hay field. Found tons of big rubs from previous seasons and followed them right to this bed. Tough to see but there are rubs on each side of this bed.

And here is another bed on the leeward side of a steep ridge where a buck can watch a tight travel corridor below him.

Good hunting everyone!

It is definitely interesting to see pictures of all these beds. You can learn quite a bit about what to look for when out scouting. I have found myself looking only for bare dirt beds, which may be a beginners mistake seeing some of these pictures.

Learn something new every day.

This is one I found in early spring . It was a big bed imbedded in the ground full of hair. I kicked a lone deer out of the area before I found it and found a shed nearby. It was on a small piece of high ground surrounded by water. On public land

Did some poking around lately and felt the Florida guys could use some photo examples of deer beds.

These beds can be spotted from a good distance as well as on satellite. In Florida, and most of the southeast where palmetto is found, the habitat is a fire dependent system and most of our public lands that allow hunting are managed using prescribed fire. These fires leave "fire shadows" that can be seen via satellite imagery. They occur along one side, or several sides, along the edges where palmetto meets a depression pond or a cypress head. In these areas, over several years, palmetto will get very tall and create perfect bedding areas along the outer edges of the cypress heads. It has been my experience that does will bed on tussocks within the cypress while the bucks bed in the thick palmetto waiting for and scent checking the does not very far off.

In the photo below you can see a good example of a fire shadow, within which you can quickly spot where the bed will be.... directly under the highest point of the palmetto patch:

In these beds, it is amazing how much cooler it is as soon as you step inside.

Here is an example of the edge that I'm talking about along with an example of where you can expect the beds to be

Image

and another example (see if you can spot the bed)

Image

Here's an example of a bed that has lots of available browse: palmetto berries, blue berries, gall berries, small fern shoots, etc.

Image

BUT...... here's an example of what's not a buck bed.... or deer bed for that matter.....

Image

These guys will move in on buck beds and create their own beds. I hate it when I find these guys around good buck bedding areas. They can be better at winding you, there's generally many of them (so more eyes), and they will eventually push the bucks out of an areas due to their aggressiveness.

Wild Hogs....
see tracks below, as well as the obvious dug out bowl above
Image

I had another great photo of a bedding area that I must have removed from my phone, but it was my first bedding area that I had ever found.... it had fantastic trails going to and from a cattail marsh, it was on a nice high mound with lots of palmetto covering it out of site.... but it had this odd vomit/scat in it... I will get another photo of it (and hopefully it's inhabitant) to show y'all before I reveal what it was. Hopefully the awesomeness of the spot will come through in the photos.

Hopefully some of the other info above helps someone build a search image.

Here's a pic of the bed I mentioned above:

Any guesses as to what made this bed?

Here's a hint, these are scattered in the area:
