depending on what terrain your shining, but get the best and most powerful light you can! Especially on farmland. Its vast and you need something that reaches the edges (if the land isn't TOO big). you need something with some power. My light is good for about 200 yds. Its good for open timber, smaller fields, and some of the logging areas where I am at, but Im not seeing deer right now in those areas- they are all in the fields. Im thinking I need to upgrade

Don’t waste your time in areas where you know you don’t have or can’t get permission.

I agree with that to a point but deer don’t know property lines. Don’t discredit shining private land adjacent to public. It’s nothing for bucks to travel a mile or even much more during the rut.

Have to agree with Dewey...any good buck spotted within 1-2 miles of public is getting my attention.

I typically shine within 1-2 miles of any public or permission properties. I don’t think it’s a waste to go even further than that. Sometimes I’ll go further, especially if it’s a river bottom that I can follow.

What I was referencing was back in the day I’d shine in between properties... say a 10 mile stretch where I had no access.

Im essentially doing this. I do want to try to do a late night shine to see if it makes a big difference or not in terms of seeing mature bucks
